Sparklehorse’s Mark Linkous: 1962 – 2010
It is with great sadness that I write this. Mark Linkous took his life last March 6. Linkous is the brains behind the experimental blues outfit Sparklehorse.
Linkous’ family released a statement to the media after his death. “It is with great sadness that we share the news that our dear friend and family member, Mark Linkous, took his own life today. We are thankful for this time with us and will hold him forever in our hearts. May his journey be peaceful, happy and free. There’s a heaven and there’s a star for you.”
Sparklehorse issued its debut album in 1995 with vivadixiesubmarinetransmissionplot. Linkous subsequently released a few more releases under the Sparklehorse monicker, namely, Good Morning Spider, It’s a Wonderful Life and Dreams for Light Years in the Belly of a Mountain. His most recent work was the Danger Mouse / David Lynch collaboration Dark Night of the Soul. Because of a legal battle between Danger Mouse and EMI, the album was not yet released. Though a earlier this week it was finally announced that an agreement has been arrived at and the album will finally be released this summer. This is the best tribute that could be given to Linkous, who was eagerly awaiting the release of this album.
