Throwing Muse’ Kristin Hersh asking fans for help

Let’s face it. The music business can be such a brutal mistress. To use my imaginary wife Heidi Klum’s catchphrase, “One day you’re in, the next day you’re out.” A lot of wonderful bands are now out of work because they are not selling millions and earning a lot from touring. And these are artists that are truly talented, not like the hacks that are dominating the airwaves right now. Yes, I’m looking at you Fall Out Boy.

One of these bands that have fallen on hard times is Throwing Muses. The Throwing Muses were one of the indie darlings of the 80s and the band has released really cool albums that showcase their awesome music. The band is also notable for bringing Kristin Hersh to the public’s attention. The multitalented artist is one of the most consistently excellent singer-songwiters of her generation, having gained acclaim for her work both with Throwing Muses and as a solo artist.

But in a recent post on the Throwing Muses’ CASH Music site, Hersh revealed that the band stopped working because of they weren’t earning enough money from recording and touring. She said that the money they were making was not enough “to pay the bills”, which led to the decision to just stop. She did say that they made the decision when they were still at the top of their game.

But Hersh, who also revealed that she has been writing new Throwing Muses songs, is asking for the help of fans. She said that if he can raise enough money then she can use it to finish and record the songs. She is using CASH Music, a nonprofit she has co-founded, in order to raise the money. She has already posted one acoustic demo for a new song titled Sunray Venus to entice fans to donate money so that she can continue her work.

If you can, it’s our turn to help artists who deserve to be heard.
