Radiohead back in the studio for new album
Radiohead is arguably one of the most significant bands of our time. And they’re also one of rock’s most consistent.
Radiohead has never failed to produce an album that has both impressed critics and fans — and yes, I will even include the mainstream-courting debut album Pablo Honey. Their release timeline is also commendable — they always release an album in between two to three years, with the time between Hail to The Thief and In Rainbows (about four years) the longest gap in between albums.
Now, Radiohead seems to be back to their “one album every three years” schedule. Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien has revealed that the band is now back in the studio to work on their new album.
O’Brien wrote on the Radiohead blog Dead Air Space last December 19 that the band will be heading back to the studio in January to continue work on the album that they began last summer. He has also expressed optimism about the new album based on the rehearsals the band has been making. He cryptically said that they are “definitely a different band” and to expect the music to be different for this outing.
I expect no less from Radiohead. These are guys who are not afraid to make tough choices and to go in directions that they feel is worth exploring, fans be damned. These are guys who take their art seriously and do not do it just for the money. For a band as huge as Radiohead, it’s a very cool thing. I can’t wait to hear their new album.
