Devendra Banhart signs on to Warner
Freak folk troubador Devendra Banhart made an excellent album in Cripple Crow, one of my favorite albums in 2005. After releasing 2007’s well received Smokey Rollds Down Thunder Canyon, Banhart retreated into the studio to make his follow-up album.
Speculations arose that Banhart may sign on to another label, leaving XL Recordings after a fruitful partnership that saw him rise to fame. The speculations became a confirmation this week when it was revealed that he has finally signed on to Warner, who will release his newest album, What Will We Be — or if we are to follow the exact spacing for the title:
What
Will We
Be
It will be interesting to find out what new musical direction Banhart will take with this new album since he has collaborated with A Band of Bees’ Paul Butler. Of course, some Banhart regulars like Greg Rogove of Megapuss and the guys from Little Joy have also helped in making the album.
